Junos

The JUNO awards are Canada’s answer to the Grammys. They’re a celebration of Canadian musical excellence and talent. This year, the award show will take place in Calgary starting March 28 and culminating in the broadcasted ceremony on April 3 on CTV.

The 2016 nominations were just announced yesterday, and the musicians nominated are speaking out.

Scott Helman
Toronto’s Scott Helman has really blown up in the past year with his debut EP, Augusta. Helman’s nominated for two JUNOs this year: Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year (for Augusta). The 20-year-old musician took to Twitter to express his excitement.

We also got the chance to catch up with this young artist, check out our interview below!

Alessia Cara
Here singer Alessia Cara “can’t comprehend” that she’s nominated for four JUNOs this year! She’s been nominated for Fan Choice, Single of the Year (for Here), Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for her debut album Four Pink Walls. Like Helman, she also took to Twitter to share her joy with fans.

Francesco Yates

Francesco Yates is nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and addressed his loyal fan base on social media, Yaters, about the good news.

Mariana’s Trench

The rock band also thanked their fans for the nomination. Naturally, they seem excited. Mariana’s Trench is up for Group of the Year.

Surprisingly, we haven’t heard a reaction from The Weeknd, who’s nominated for the most JUNO awards this year: six. He’ll also be performing at the JUNOs on April 3.
